A new (to us) library on a super weekend

Troy and I sat in the Wake County Regional Library at Cameron Village and studied on Saturday while Lorena and Youngin went shopping in Cameron Village.  The kids were over at St. Augustine College to take their ACT.  I do not know how much studying Troy got accomplished, I was pretty manic almost all day and had lots of interesting things to say (at least they were interesting to me, I am not sure about Troy).  It was a beautiful sunny day.  The kids enjoyed the test.  Lorena and I enjoyed hanging out with Troy and Youngin.  We ate some GREAT food at a noodle place in Cameron Village after the test.  I was a little bit saddened because I know we will probably not be going to the Holly Springs library too much any more.  You can drink coffee in the stacks at the Cameron Village library, they have a McDonalds (for breakfast) right around the corner, Lorena can go shopping while Kelly, Christian, and I read books, it is on the way to Costco.  How much better does it get than that?  Still, I LOVED the Holly Springs Library.  We will have to go back there sometime soon for nostalgia’s sake.

St. Augustine College has a neat campus which seems to be right in the center of Raleigh.  While I was waiting for the kids to complete their tests, I noticed that they had won a ton of Division II NCAA National Track and Field Championships.  I think it would be kind of fun to go to a track meet there.  It will not be the Olympic Trials or even a UCLA-Oregon dual meet at Hayward Field, but I bet it would be pretty fun.  I am not sure how well the kids did on the test, but they seemed to think they did OK.  They felt like the math part was the hardest, the science next, and then the English and reading comprehension.  Kelly felt pretty good about the essay portion of her test, too.  We will have to wait and see how it comes out.

Sunday between the morning meeting and the gospel meeting in the afternoon, we all sat down, turned on some classical music, and did some portrait drawing.  We were a little rusty, but it was a LOT of fun.  We have decided we are going to try to do that as often as we can now on Sunday afternoons.  We did a little bit of reading, too.  While we did that, Christian knit a couple of additional rows on his Ubuntu Scarf.  It is coming out awesome.  You can see the logo now.  We can hardly wait until he finishes.  He is thinking of doing a Linux Mint scarf next.  They have a logo that would look greate on a scarf, but it might not be that easy to do.  Maybe he will be ready to try to do it on a sweater or something by the time he gets started.

Note:  I heard on the radio that we will be able to listen to Dave Ramsey on WPTF from 9-12 on weekday mornings.  I hope I will still be able to hear him on afternoons on the way home from work, too!

  1. Sounds like you had a great weekend! Things here were okay. I made it out to mtg Sunday morning, but Thomas had hives all over his scalp (he suffers from chronic hives) and was all knocked out with Benadryl. Since Michaela had a cold, she stayed home and rested. Needless to say, we didn’t make it to Raleigh Sunday afternoon but would have loved to. Maybe things will get back on track for us this week as far as health and wellness.

I used to go to Cameron Village prety frequently to meet my mom for lunch when she worked in Raleigh. They had some neat little shops at the time, but it’s been years since I’ve been there.

I hope you’ll show us your paintings!!

    Happy Monday,
    Lynn

Lynn, I hope you all start feeling better! We wish we could show you some paintings, but all we do is pencil stuff. We will put our efforts up here so people can guess who we were trying to draw. Sometimes we do OK, but mostly we are pretty amateurish. Cameron Village was a super find for us. Troy and Youngin had been suggesting that for a long time, so we are indebted to them for this.

  3. Ken, I think I’m officially old. I read portrait *painting*, and now I see it said *drawing*. No kidding! LOL. Show us your drawings. I love seeing them and think they are great.

  4. What a great weekend!!
I had so much fun shopping with my friend Youngin! We need to do this more often.

I am really shocked. Lorena went shopping with Youngin and only spent $3 for some spices. Lorena had GREAT fun and we plan to figure out how to unload the kids so we can go to the noodle place by ourselves.

Congratulations to the kids for getting through the test ~ BRAVO! Absolutely love the scarf. I crochet, but someday I would like to learn to knit as well…and I really shouldn’t say, “I crochet,” as if I am some expert or something….I am, however, pretty good when it comes to making 2 different types of pot holders (a few years ago I made my mom and sisters each a set of potholders for Christmas, and when you consider that I have 4 sisters and 2 sister-in-laws that I made them for, it literally took me half the year to get them done!) and am beginning to experiment with different stitch patterns as I work my way through a booklet that instructs in how to make washcloths using these stitch patterns. It will be 3 years everyone gets a full set of these!

Thanks Ruthie. It was a great weekend for all concerned (partially because I got to have Lorena to myself for a little while!). Lynn, we will put our next completed work up along with the picture no matter how unlike the original it turns out.

  8. Trisha

I am envious of Christians knitting skills.

  9. I don’t know too much about the home schooling and testing stuff; it sounds interesting for sure, but it brings tears to my eyes to see someone else love Ubuntu! Glad to see someone else off of the Winblows grid!

Christian and Kelly both are a lot better than I. Christian has found a great program that allows him to input a graphic design. Then, the program outputs the stitch pattern. Kelly is trying new, more difficult stuff all the time and is getting faster and better. As for me, my specialty is mono-color rectangles. I am manly enough to admit that anything that is not square and takes more than one skein of yarn is to difficult for me.

As for the Ubuntu thing, Adam, we are VERY happy with it. It just keeps getting better and better. Christian has been using an Ubuntu derivative called Mint that he likes a lot, too. We can’t wait until Jaunty Jackalope comes out in April.

If some one was making me a scarf I would chose an Ubuntu one.:)

I have been reading Uncle Dub’s blog and from the sound of it, you have stellar access to knitting from another source! Maybe I could put in a word for you with one of those knitting coffee drinkers.
