John 19, 20, and 21

I was reading the Bible this morning and I turned to John 19 and started reading. I read through the rest of John because it was so good. I never really read any books of the Bible thoroughly save Matthew and Genesis. John was amazing. He said that Jesus did so many things that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. He also said that these things are written that we may believe in God, that we may find life in His name. It was pretty interesting. One thing that I didn’t understand too well though is the fact that Jesus told the disciple whom he loved to take care of his mother I think, and in later chapters he speaks of the disciple whom he loved also. But it says in the 21:20 that “The disciple whom Jesus loved following, who had also leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord who is the one who betrays you?” and then if you read up to the 24th verse it says “This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true” Was John the same disciple who took care of Mary? I don’t know. But it sure was interesting reading that chapter.

Oh, by the way, wasn’t the disciple who leaned on Jesus’s breast Peter? Do you know Dad? Do you know Mrs. Waldo?

This was truly a grand post Kelly. It would be great if you reserved one day ever couple of weeks for this kind of post. I LOVED it.

To answer your question:  Most believe it was John who was refering to himself.  I like to think all the apostles (and all the disciples) felt that they were the ones Jesus loved, too.

Kelly that was a very thoughtful blog you wrote. I love reading what you are doing at the Chapman household! It seems that it was John leaning on Jesus breast. He stayed as close as possible which would be a wonderful thing for us to do as well. We were talking with my brother into the wee hours this am. He said the Bahai’s are the modern day friends! Jim said no we are the modern day friends….no need to change anything from Jesus taught when he lived on the earth. The Bahai’s believe they have “moved on” from those teachings and that they needed to because of today’s tecnology etc. I said well our souls are just the same and so we need the same teachings as then. Anyway we do love him and we pray that he will be honest in his searchings of truth. Love you!! JoAnn
