"In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." –John 16:33

Our school plans are solidifying

There are still a lot of ifs, but we are arriving at a plan.  If we can swing the financing, if I do not have to move because of my job, if we can get the transportation worked out, if.., if…, if…  We plan to put Kelly in college next year.  So, we are not exactly diving into the deep end of the pool like Luke.  Nor does it look like we are we easing into it like Ruthie’s Mattise (I smart move on Mattise’s part I would say).  Rather, due to know forethought of our own, it appears like she will take the middle road.  She will be taking a fairly light load the first semester with only one hard class and a couple of middling hard classes.  Not a bad plan.  In the meantime, she plans to take five more CLEP tests between now and mid-summer.  That sounds kind of bad as I write it out, but I do not think it will be to onerous.  She has been preparing for all of them but one for about a year now.

We are trying to figure out what to do with Christian.  He is scheduled to take two CLEP tests between now and then end of the year and four CLEP tests next year.  We hope he can take a couple of college classes at Campbell during Spring semester.  I am not sure whether they will let him, but we will ask.

  1. Ken, sorry for not returning to your comment. I rarely make it back to “check up” on follow up to my comments.

I haven’t written about going to college at 16 because… well… I didn’t [smile]. Sonlight does have some college prep materials, but I don’t think they’re what you’re looking for. You could definitely ask around on the Sonlight Forums and see what insights other families have…

Lord, I ask that You would continue to guide the whole Chapman family as they make these important choices. Give them wisdom and peace as they step out into these new areas. Work out all the unknowns and provide. Amen!

No heartburn, Ken! May it be smooth sailing from here on out. My “jumping in” worked great for me because I was at that stage in life. It was great. But if that’s not where Kelly is yet, then a middle road sounds perfect [smile].

    All the best!

Thanks for the comments Luke. We are just very happy you stop in now and again. I actually think we are pretty well under control right now. As a homeschool “guru” AND student, you probably now better than most (including me) that mileage may vary. As always, if this does not work, this is only just life and we will try something else.

Sounds like a great plan for Kelly. If you really want to push the issue with Christian in the Spring, and feel like he is ready, then I would ask for an audience with the Dean of Students. Take his CLEP and ACT scores in and some samples of his work. You could also have Christian write something on his own behalf to show that he is capable of writing well.

    Good luck!
