Shoot out at grandma’s house in Mexico

There was a big shoot-out in front of Grandpa Lauro and Grandma Conchita’s house in Mexico today.  The authorities recovered 60 spent shells.  There were a lot more, but the neighborhood kids picked up most of them.  It is getting to be a part of everyday life down there.  We are not sure or not whether anyone was hurt.  Jorge (Lorena’s brother) has communicated with Grandpa Lauro and everyone in our family is OK.  Actually they ran down to the grocery store to get some stuff, so Lorena is suffering greatly because she has not yet heard the gossip directly from the horses mouth.  The accounts we receive from that source are generally based on the truth, but I will try to get the straight scoop from Don Lauro or one of the brothers.

Here is a link to an early article the describes the event.  I will post more when (and if) we learn more.  Here is a second article.
You can see a video report here.

Please tell Lorena that I am praying for her family….and for her nerves. I would be a wreck too. It is terrible that this has come so close to her home. I pray that there is a solution found soon that will lead to an end of this bloodshed.

Thanks Ruthie. This is something we think about every day. It is hard to plan a trip to Monterrey with the family when these kinds of things are such a regular even. We very much appreciate your prayers on this.

We’ve been traveling, so offline for several days & didn’t know about the shootout until we visited Dana & her mom this morning. Too scary. But Lauro & Conchita seem to take it all in stride, which is maybe a good and bad thing?! The night before we had dinner with them during convention, the folks next door had gotten robbed. Never a dull moment in the neighborhood, eh? Hope they and all the friends there continue to be safe.

Thanks Deena. They are really not doing too bad. It is really a war between the cartels, but scary at the same time. My understanding is that virtually none of the neighborhoods down there are immune.
