Christian move on to Algebra I

We are really starting to ramp up on our homeschool again. Christian finished his last Pre-Algebra homework assignment yesterday and we got everything corrected up. He will be doing some major, end of section testing today, then he will start Elementary Algebra tomorrow. We are all very excited about that. Kelly should be ready to move on from Elementary Algebra to Intermediate Algebra by the end of the week. She will go back to Geometry toward the end of this year, then on to Pre-Calculus in the second half of next year. This is a pretty big deal for us because both of the kids are finishing up a year of material and moving on to new text books. I am very happy with their progress.

We had a great little session last night on logical fallacies. We had previously studied “Red Herrings” and moved on to “Ad Hominem” arguments. What was really great was that, in the end of chapter exercises, both Kelly and Christian were able to identify, not only the Ad Hominem arguments we studied this week, but the Red Herrings we studied several weeks back. We are looking forward to continuing through this book.

    Are you exited Christian?

Wow I’m having flashbacks to Argumentative Writing Class! Those aren’t great memories by the way. : )!!

  3. Dad

I wish I would have had a little of that stuff when I was in high school (or before). I did not start learning about those kinds of fallacies until I was out of college!

  4. Trisha

Yes, I wonder why they do not teach them sooner. I’m sure government schools do not want their students to be logical thinkers!! : )!!

  5. Dad

Well they are doing a good job a teaching that (not being logical thinkers)!!! What is the scoop with grad school?

  6. Trisha

Well, the scoop is that I am applying for grad school at SOU! It is a year long program with very few breaks. A lot of student teaching is involved especially winter and spring terms. Summer terms I have to go to Ashland 4 days a week but fall/winter/spring only 1 day a week. They described it as a very rigorous year. I have to apply by Jan 11th. So My former adviser is helping me with the application and writing me a letter of recommendation. So that is pretty much all I know right now

YAHOO!!!! Congrats and good luck! I LOVED grad school. It was so much better than my undergrad that was in no way comparable. I LOVE it that you are doing this. If you do OK at it, it really might be worth it to go on to a Ph.D. after you get two or three years of experience. Friends do not let friends get Ed.D.’s. Ph.D., Ph.D., Ph.D!!!! Nothing can replace it.

Hey, ALRIGHTY THEN I will make a note PH.D. or bust!! I am very excited about grad school. I am bored w/ my psych classes and am looking forward to moving on. I have two stressful terms coming up then a month of R & R(hopefully) before Starting at SOU

  9. Dad

    GET THAT PH.D.!!!!
