The school year is started – How was Saginaw?

One of the first things I thought about this morning was that Jim and JoAnn will be back from Saginaw this morning getting ready to start the new year.  It was great to be able to start the new school year with a convention.  We always tried to get a week or two of homeschool in before convention each year.  Going to convention after the week or two always helped extend out the really fun, “getting started” weeks.  And, with convention, it always helped us have the right motivation for our studies.  I am really very happy for the timing of our conventions here in North Carolina, too.  It is only a week or two later than in Oregon.  This year, it looks like we will get the weekend of Shelby and all of Denton, so it should really work about the same way.

This morning, Lorena and the kids got up at 6:00am because it is the first day of school.  We all sat down and read the bible together over breakfast.  We are starting to settle into more of a routine, so I have dedicated myself to getting back on a diet.  I started this morning.  Bryan, if you read this in Texas, I want you to eat a LOT on the rest of this trip so that we are closer to even on the weight thing.  I am back to exactly zero pounds lost.  I am game to ramp this thing back up, even if you have a twelve pound lead.  Let me know on Friday and I will start posting the weights again!

Yes, Ken we are back from Saginaw and we had such an uplifting convention. One thing I have really treasured is what we heard about waiting on the Lord. When we pray for the souls and lives of our loved ones and we feel so earnest about what we are praying. We need to pray for it all to be in the Lord’s timing because he wants the things for our loved ones even more than we do!!! I want to be willing to wait on the Lord. Last night we got a call about midnight from Elena Meyers. Her Mom Ruth had died that day!!! Steve was over here doing horseshoeing and had left his cell phone in the truck and was sleeping in the trailer. Elena said it is over near where Kelly and Christian went to school. Well, I knew that Christian went to Fir Grove so we started searching near there….after driving into private drives and NOT getting shot at nor barked at, Jim said maybe it is over near Oak Grove school!! Duh So we were able to find him. Today he had lunch with us and we sent him on his way to Terrebonne. They have a long drive ahead of them to Santa Anna. Anyway when we got the new workers list, I thought my eyes were blurry when I didn’t see Albany/Corvallis on the list. However after scanning thru 3 times I knew it wasn’t there!! After a call to Linda I found that Kent and Micheal Summers will be here 🙂 It was just left off the e-mail list! Did you see who is coming for SagII? WOW If you ever have the opportunity to hear Denise Smith/South Africa….make arrangements to go no matter how far you have to drive!!!!Your folks were there for a couple days Ken…loved hearing them share in the meeting. Glad you are getting back into the routine…it is always hard after summer, move etc. Tooooooooooo long!! Love you guys!!!

Thanks for the note here JoAnn. I was hoping you would fill us in a little. We were very sorry to hear about Elena’s mother. Our thoughts will be with them. It is really neat that Mike Summers is going to be with you next year. We have heard some very fun stories about him. Hopefully, we will be going to preps at Denton this coming Saturday, then on to conventions at Shelby and Denton over the next three weeks. Maybe Denise will be at one of those! Greetings to all!
