Christian, Kelly, and I are going to do a chemistry experiment on Saturday. I purchased the RealScience-4-Kids program from Access Research Network. The premise behind this program is that the students do real experiments with a hypothesis, experimental design, data gathering, analysis of data, etc. It looks great. Christian is in charge of gathering all of the required items to do the experiment. On Saturday, we will read the preparatory text and perform the experiment on the kitchen table.

There are programs for elementary school chemistry, biology, and physics. They really are not very long, but appear to provide a much more complete coverage of the subject matter than I remember receiving in elementary school. The experiments are real experiments as opposed to the demonstrations generally provided in most science programs at that level. I will probably film the first experiment and also take a bunch of photographs so Christian can put up a webpage with the results. The title of the first chapter is “Matter”. The subtitles include an Introduction, Atoms, Periodic Table, and Summary. The first experiment is titled “What is it made of?” followed by a review of terms.
