What a great picture! I didn’t know they were high school sweethearts.

Actually, they got together when Dad owned a sawmill after graduating from high school and before he went into the service. Did you graduate from Cottage Grove High? My cousin Karin organized the 40th reunion this summer for what would have been my class if we would have stayed in Cottage Grove.

No, we graduated from Crow, went to grade school in Lorane. There were a bunch of little sawmills then – my grandfather, dad and his brother all ran a saw mill for a while. There are a few of those small, family ran mills around here in Montana now.

That is interesting. It sounds the same as our family. Actually, my grandparents on Mom’s side started out in Crow when they got married. Dad ran one of those small family mills when he and Mom got married. That was a hard way to make a living and a very different way of life back then. I am sure some parts of it were good and some parts of it were not so good.
