Cables at RadioShack

Day 82 0f 1000

I just bought three USB cables to charge our telephones at Amazon for $5.37 total including shipping.  That was after Lorena bought one cable at RadioShack for $24, then turned around and took it back.  We never buy anything at RadioShack anymore.  It is kind of sad.  Why don’t they at least TRY to compete?

Yeah, I really wish they would. The only thing I buy at Radio Shack anymore is electronic components, and only then if I don’t have time to order them.

  2. Dad

Exactly right Kendall. And I only buy that if I don’t have time to wait.

I know! I remember what fun it used to be to go there as well. You could find it all there.

  4. Radio Shack has taken quite a beating in the last few years and as a result they have started to focus on their roots which was the DIY electronic hobby market. So if you’re looking for random computer parts you’re going to get shafted but if you’re looking for Arduino components then its a goldmine.

  5. How much do we value getting it today? That’s my only guess as to Radio Shack’s business plan.

Of course, if you live near a Fry’s Electronics or other largish full-spectrum electronics retailer, you can get the item now AND at a near-Amazon price.

Wes, I have to admit you are exactly right. I programmed some Arduino’s for some volunteer research work at NCSU and spent time in the closest Radio Shack to buy resistors, capacitors, wire, and even breadboards for exactly the reason you state. It had to do with what Matthew said, too. If I would have waited for stuff to get here from the web, we would have missed our deadline by a month. As for Fry’s, I am still in mourning that we are a days drive from the where we live right now.

  7. I live less than 10 minutes from Fry’s. Its a great geek hangout but I wouldn’t consider their prices to be comparable to Amazon. For that I would recommend the TigerDirect store that’s also not too far from here on I85.

Now there is a thought! We have been in Raleigh over four years now and we have TWO TigerDirect stores in town, yet we have not visited them. That is just wrong. Christian and I need to head over there this Saturday while Mom goes to CostCo. Good advise Wes. Thanks!
