Hi! I'm Kelly and every once in a while I write in the Chapmankids blog. I like to write, play with my cats and my dog, and read Agatha Christie mysteries.
Hopefully, with the help of writing on the blog and practicing, my writing won't get too corny. See ya!

Holes

I have been 12 for one month now. Tommorow is my birthday party! Yesterday we went to meeting with the Myers and we heard that there is going to be a potluck for the whole field on Cindo De Mayo. The construction kids started digging holes in our yard for starting the remodel. Trappy is running around everywhere! We keep him outside in his doggy cage and right now he is sleeping. He is so cute! Trappy went to the bathroom outside today (good). We went swimming yesterday. It is going well, Mom might put us in swimteam.
Sorry for the haste in writing this. I will write more (and better) later. Ciao

Trappy and My Birthday Party

As Dad said, we got a nice widdle puppy named Trapito (or Trappy for you English speaking people) Our neighbors grandma who lives on the next street bought him but unfortunately for her Grandpa doesn’t like dogs. She gave him to the neighbor kids but they already have a whole bunch of fish, a lizard, a cat and a dog (they also used to have about 6 birds, more cats, and a guinea pig) They couldn’t keep him so they showed Trappy to us and (of course) we wanted him.

My birthday party is this week and I am inviting the neighbor girl, a girl I met in government school, and the homeschool gang. It is a scrap booking party and it is also a sleepover. Dad and Christian will be well out of the area once the party starts (or so Dad says) and I can’t wait, but I guess Christian can.(:

Today’s the Day!

Today Mom and Christian and I are going camping with some of the friends. We can’t wait. There’s a lake, a big screen television, pool tables, hiking trails, and cabins. Poor, poor Dad. He has to be all alone in this dark and dreary apartment while we are having fun. We’ll write more when we come back.

2 Strange Things and a Sorrowful Note

My 12th birthday is coming up. We are going to move to Oregon around that time so the friends here are going to have a little celebration for Pam Nerple and I. We have the exact same birthdays. A strange coincedence. Today I went to the Orthodontist here for the last time. The first time that I went we brought Grandpa Lauro with us but he stayed in the car. Then, I met one of the helpers whose name was Rosie. She was from the town where Grandpa Lauro is from but I didn’t realize it at the time. I thought that that was interesting so I told Mom. She told me that Grandpa was from that town near Monterrey. Today I saw Rosie but I wasn’t able to ask her anything. She went up front where Mom was sitting and Mom asked her what her last name was and who her relatives were. It turned out that she was my Grandpa’s cousin by blood! Another strange coincedence.

We are going to miss Texas and the friends here very much. We are going day camping with the friends at the end of the week and to Special Meetings the week after that, so we will get to see them a little bit more before go.  Before we know it we’ll be in Oregon. Of course we can’t wait to go, but we had a wonderful time here. We should definitely keep in touch.

Homeschool

Another day, some more math, a myraid mixture of grammar, cursive, history, and reading. But really, I like it. Right now I am reading Adam of the Road, a great book about medieval England, and Master Cornhill, another great book about medieval England. Tommorow is Current Events day and I’m thinking about a certain article in World Mag. Later Mom will take us to the library to return our books and get some new ones. Since I am working on my annual research report I wil need some more research books. My topic this year is “The Great Pyramids”. I have been learning a lot of interesting things in my books this year. Next year I will do some more world history and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books for this year, they all look so good. I should get back to work. More later.

I love that house!

Dad told us about a really nice house in Richardson. I didn’t know what to except, you never know with Dad.(: But when we checked it out I found the house to my liking, or to put it a little more strongly, to my loving. Actually I think I liked the neighborhood even more than the house. (not that it’s bad or anything) They have a poker club, a garden club, a playgroup and more! The neighbors maintain a large, really nice, pool for the hot months and there is a park with a playground, pond, green, and bridge. They have a ton of year round events so as to not keep the neigborhood boring since there are so many kids. They include a fall festival, an independence day parade(I am soooo jealous) an “eggstravagansa” for easter and the little kids, and a big yard sale.
The house itself: large, really nice kitchen, really nice bedrooms(Christian’s turn to pick first) and a really nice back yard. I would describe it in more detail but there are others who want to move to Dallas too.(; I hope that Dad and Mom will be able to buy it, if not it isn’t the only good house in Texas. (But it sure seems that way!)

Mundo de Adeveras

Today we went to el Mundo De Adeveras with Adrian, Christian, and Dayanita. We had a blast! When we entered the park we saw a little street filled with a whole bunch of shops and signs. First we went to get our credit cards at a little souveneir shop. We use our credit cards to win Devis, the currency in Adeveras land. Then we went to the bank where we activated our credit cards. After that we went to the car dealers and bought a car that we could use to drive around in a special area. They went pretty slow but it was still lots of fun. After that we ate lunch and went to the sports area. Adrian, Dayanita, and I got to be television reporters on a sports show. Then we went to the farm. Christian and Adrian played on the Go-Carts and all of us went on the bathangers. We also shopped at a grocerey store, played on a jungle gym, played doctor at a hospital, were reporters at a newspapers, and read books at the library. The best part, in my opinion, was buying our Cemex Cement bags with the Devis we collected. Christian, Dayanita, and I each got 2, 4-ounce, bags of sand. Guero didn’t want them so he won a few more Devis and got a toy car instead. Write later.

Mexico!

We have arrived in Mexico! Tonight we will be going to my cousin’s house. Adrian (a.k.a. El guero) filled his pool and has invited all his cousins over to play in it. I’m looking forward to go there not only because of his pool and my cousins, but because his mother makes the best mango popsicles I have ever tasted.:-) Tomorrow we probably will be going to el Mundo de Adeveras or World of Truth. It is an amusement park for children where you can be a rock climber, doctor, airlplane pilot, grocery store clerk, and much more. They even have a real airplane there which my uncle will clean today. On Sunday we went to Allende where my great grandfather Jose lives. But first we stopped at his land where his orange orchard is. Grandpa Lauro picked a whole bunch and brought them home with us. After we visited his land we went to his house. He is very nice to Christian and I. Lately we have been playing with my cousin Dayanita alot. Christian, El Guero, and she are all the same age so they get along well enough. I’ll write more later since I have to go get ready for the party.

The most challenging part of homeschool–an essay

This is another editorial that I wrote for the monthly newspaper editorial contest. The topic was the challenge for me at first but then Mom suggested math. I wrote it like a poem and had lot’s of fun. I probably won’t win the contest this month since I already won it the first time and they haven’t published my essays since.

The Most Challenging Part of School so Far this Year

Math. A never ending story of decimals, fractions, ratios, and multiplication that seems to prevail over me and frustrate me again and again. But when I conquer the plague of numbers and figures that torment my mind, what a good feeling it is to know that I have mastered something I once thought difficult. And then comes yet another tempest which I must learn to brave as I sit with a pencil in my unmoving hand, until I have it! Firmly locked in my mind never to be forgotten or neglected unless I let it go.

When the school year is done I might be joyful that I am freed of the digits and shapes that had been so awful to me, but soon I find myself yearning for math yet again. I’ll never know when I’ll have to pull out of my knowledge some combination of numbers from the constantly growing jumble of my mathematical mind to solve a problem. But when I do I must remember that I could not have done without that wonderful, horrible, challenge. Math.

Lunch at the Nelsons

I am currently at the home of Tony and Martha Nelson typing on their computer. They have invited us over for lunch at their house. We just got back from church. Mrs. Nelson is my Mother’s cousin and Mr. Nelson goes to our church. Mrs. Nelson made me an adorable purse out of Caprisun fruit juice packs. This entry does not count as one of my weekly entries. I will introduce myself in a later entry.
