Working from home

I have a great job that I love, but it is a long way from where I live.  When I took the job, it was agreed that I could work from home 2/3 days per week.  Today I am at home and will start work as soon as I finish this post.  There is a real up side to not having to drive for forty minutes to get to work.  On the other hand, I am not really a “work at home” kind of guy.  There is WAY too much food around here.  Still, under the right circumstances, I can get a LOT more done here than at work.  Part of that has to do that I have two extra hours to get it done, but the isolation helps, too.  I am a social guy, so I do not like it as much, but it helps.  I have VNC to get onto the company computers and communicate with the office with email and Skype.  It all works amazingly well.  Best of all, Lorena brings me breakfast at my desk!!!  What a wife.  It is even more amazing today because she is having her annual checkup and the doctor said she had to fast after midnight until they took samples, so she made breakfast for me without having any for herself!

Retooling Betty Blonde and Kelly’s new blog

  1. Ken, it’s so good to read about what’s up with you all! And what a sweet wife you have. 🙂 I had blood work last week and it is SOOO hard to be that hungry and smell food and know that others are eating but you’re not!! Sounds like college is going well for Christian and Kelly. That’s great! I’m trying to stay more focused on math. Michaela is good at math and I always did well in math, but we lean so much more toward the arts here. I’ve been trying to do math first! That way it’s done and over with! Keep blogging! Lynn

Thank Lynn. It feels good to be back blogging again. It also good, because I seem to read a lot more of other peoples’ blogs when I am blogging myself, so I am looking forward to getting caught back up with you all! If there is anything we can do to help with the math, please do not hesitate to ask. Kelly and Christian are both math majors (well–Kelly is, technically, a statistics major, but gets tons of math as part of that) and we have lots of materials here if you.

  3. Ruthie

Does that mean…(agast!)…..that you ate for two?

  4. Thanks, Ken! I think we are okay, though I am sure nowhere near where we’d be if we had someone like you on the scene. I mean that as a complete compliment! Or should I make a bad pun and say “complement”? Anyway, my problem is that I’m so flighty with my time and we all tend to have the scattered brain syndrome when it comes to staying on a schedule. I do love Saxon at this point and Michaela “gets it.” Right now we are set to finish 7/6 soon and go into 8/7 right on time or early. She’s right on grade level with her studies, though I think she could be even more ahead if we doubled up on our efforts! I will keep you all in mind, though. I bet your kids would make awesome math tutors!! They could make money doing that on the side! Lynn

Ruthie–I had to laugh with this comment. She was not thinking so she made enough for the both of us (our normal modus operandi). You have NO idea what it is like when I work at home. I think I eat for about 43 when I am there. My dear wife just keeps bringing me food.

Lynn–It sounds like you are doing a good thing. We got way ahead and I don’t know whether that is good or bad. I think our kids missed out on some fun stuff, but they got some benefit from it, too. Saxon is awesome. It seems like one of the most thorough programs available, so I do not think you can miss. Thanks for the nice comments on the tutoring. I am actually going to write about that in an upcoming blog post. Christian tutors and is tutor on the IRC math channel. It is pretty amazing stuff.

  6. Ken, I just had to comment on the comment you made back to Ruthie! Working at home == Food. Food. Food.

That is one of my biggest problems. It’s “what can I eat next?” all day long! Chex cereal. Smoothie. Cookie. Yogurt. Ice cream. I feel sick. What can I eat that will offset all the sweets? Sandwich. Chips. Almonds. You get the picture. It is truly a challenge!

  7. Hi you sweet family! I couldn’t help but notice your beautiful round rattan platter! Glad you are enjoying it Lorena! Check out my website for NEW products available March 1st!! I am attempting to do another $1000.00 …want to help:)
