Here are the long awaited pictures!!
We had lots of fun cooking with Grandpa Milo while he was visiting. We made chicken cordon bleu, berry trifles, baked apples, fancy pasta, and Cornish game hens! :
Chicken Cordon Bleu cooking in the oven
Garnished with basil from the garden
Baked apples!! My new favorite dessert. We just cut up some apples and put them in a baking dish with water, cinnamon, brown sugar, raisins, and a little pat of butter on top!
They were delicious warm with some heavy cream
Cornish game hens with garnish. The garnish is always very important.
The chef at work!!
Setting up the table
Sorry for the blur! This is to show the whole spread 🙂
Diced angel food cake + mixed berries + whipped cream = berry trifles. Almost as delicious at the baked apples!!
Grandpa with his scrumptious dessert
Thank you for coming and showing us how to cook again Grandpa!! We love you 🙂

I am not sure what pic you are speaking of, but if it was a pic of my girls (Emma and Mattisse) and I, it was from this past Saturday night’s Art Walk in downtown Sacramento. I had a great time with them and 3 of their friends.
Ruthie
Kelly, did you core the apples and
fill the empty center with raisins?
Lynn
Yum! That’s all I have to say about that. 🙂

Was Grandpa Milo a chef, or does he just like to cook? My husband loves to cook, but does not like to do yard work….that is why we all eat great and are teaching the boys to take care of our dismal yard!!! But I am telling you, it has been a blessing to be a homeschool mother and not have had to be responsible for every meal. I RARELY cook on the weekends at all. He makes the best omeletes ever! Speaking of my cooking skills (I can cook ~ haha), 5 weeks ago we started “Homemade Pizza Wednesday.” After 3 weeks of experimentation, and pretty good pizzas, we landed on a great crust recipe and now are searching for the perfect, no fail, sauce recipe. I actually want to try a white sauce and a pesto sauce as we get more bold.
I have also been saving the pizza mailers so that I know what pizza companies put on their Italian pizzas, their fancy California pizzas, their all meat pizzas, etc. We are having people over on Wednesdays, too, so are getting all kinds of positive feedback, as well as help with the assembling of the pizzas! It has been fun.
Dad
Man, Ruthie, your cooking sounds like a TON of fun. We do our own pizza, but we cheat! Trader Joe’s makes an awesome, already shaped, ready for the pan, whole-wheat pizza dough. We really want in on the secret, no-fail sauce, because we certainly have not gotten that exactly right yet. The other ingredients are just FUN. I love those fancy California pizzas, but we have not yet gotten brave enough to try anything other than the classics. The one thing that we do like is fresh basil from the garden.
As for Dad, he got his start in the army and ended up being the cook for the General who was running the hydrogen bomb project on Eniwetok in the South Pacific. He cooked banquets for Generals, scientists, Senators, and other dignitaries who went out there to see the work that was done. He got to see the first two H-bombs blow up. We kid him that his cooking was so bad in those days they had to blow up the whole island!
Kelly
Dad… the dough doesn’t come already shaped. Mom had to do all the hard work in the kitchen! 🙂
