Lorena took Kelly and Christian to swimming class yesterday. Then in the evening, we went to our Wednesday night bible study out in Jefferson at Steve and Elena Meyer’s home. There was time and to spare for both of the kids to get all of the homeschool finished, but Kelly has gotten a little behind again. I think it is procrastination more than anything. There are so many good things to read in the house, she tends to go off in a direction other than her programmed work. She loves the materials she is studying, but she loves a lot of other stuff, too. She should get back on track by the end of the week. We will remind her where she needs to focus. Tonight, Kelly will be going to a birthday party for her friend Skyler. It will be interesting to her what she has to say when she gets home.
The new Sonlight curriculum catalog came yesterday. It was great. I was thinking that the Sonlight program only went up through the tenth grade, but that is not right. It goes all the way to twelfth. Also, I found that fifth grade is the last elementary grade year. Next year, Kelly will start a two year study of the history of the world to get a feel for the whole flow of history. It sounds great and we are excited to get started. Christian will get a second year of American history next year. I think we will stick with Sinagapore Math, at least through eighth grade. After that, I might start looking for something a little different because that is when their program goes away from a workbook based system to a textbook only based system. That might be just fine, I will just have to look at it. Next year, I am planning to give them both the Biology and the Physics programs from RealScience-4-Kids. They have been absolutely loving the Chemistry program they are currently studying.
Yesterday evening when I spoke to Ron, he told me Quality Corners had received a further increase in their standing rosette order to more than double what it was before. If we can sustain that business, then I will have some addtional options about what to do with my career.
