Kelly got caught up on all her reading yesterday, but got behind in a couple of other things. They did experiment #4 in their RealScience-4-Kids, but did not answer the questions after the experiment. It was an absolutely great experiment on bases and acids using paper treated with juice created by boiling a red cabbage as pH strips. The next experiment will use the same juice. Then, they did not do their reading out loud in Christian’s book, Calico Bush. They really should be able to get all caught up over the next few days. It looks like Kelly will be finishing her Spelling Power toward the end of next week or the week after. Christian will take another three or four weeks.

I went to the website of something called The Xtal Set Society to buy Christian a crystal radio kit. We had already put one together that required the wrapping of wire around a paper towel tube. I was planning to buy a similar one that wraps wire around a Quaker Oat box, but they had a kit there that consisted of a printed circuit board and some parts to solder to it. It is a little bit more sophisticated, but not much. The great part about the kit is that it is designed to teach kids how to solder. It has big solder pads that are well separated from each other so beginning solderers can have a good chance of getting it right. I think Christian will love this project a lot.

Last night, I worked with Kelly on some math with which she was struggling. I did not exercise as much patience as would have been the most helpful in the situation. I am going to work on being very patient with her in teaching math. She is very capable of understanding this, but is oriented more toward right brain kinds of activities. She is very sweet and very much wants to understand and do will. I could never have asked for a more wonderful daughter or son than the ones we have.
