I am feeling like an old man. Toward the end of work on Friday, I was walking between buildings when I sprained my ankle. It hurt like only a sprained ankle can hurt. I had a pretty bad attitude all weekend long, slept crooked or something and ended up with a sharp pain in my neck, back, and shoulder. Based on my attitude and actions during the whole weekend, I pretty much deserved that whole deal. Life goes on.
The new homeschool schedule seems to have worked very well. On Friday, the kids focused on their work hard in the morning. If it were not for the fact that they were a little bit behind because of procrastination earlier in the week, both Kelly and Christian would have finished everything before lunch. Actually, I think they felt pretty good about their work and, inspite of my bad attitude, that led into a pretty good weekend for them…
On Friday night, I stayed home with my ankle and my bad spirit while Lorena and the kids went to a play that was put on at a church by a bunch of the local homeschool kids. I guess they did an absolutely great job. Three of Kelly’s friends from the homeschool play group were in the play. She gave them invitation to her birthday party which will take place this Friday afternoon. They were all very excited about seeing her and about attending the party. You can readily see a huge attitude difference between the kids in the homeschool group and the kids both in our neighborhood and at the government school the kids attended last year. The homeschool kids are just sweeter. I wish I would have gone to the play because nothing good happened at home.
Saturday morning, we decided to run down to Salem to go to the Borders bookstore there after we ate lunch at Jack in the Box in Albany. After we read books for awhile and Lorena spent her Christmas gift certificate money on a hall table (it looks great), we went to the Circuit City in Salem and bought a Mini-DV video camera. The one we wanted was not in stock, but they were willing to ship it to us, so it should arrive in the next couple of days. I will give our old one to Grandpa Lauro. He should enjoy it a lot.
A couple other nice things happened. One of them happened on Thursday and one of them happened on Sunday evening. First, the Rizo’s kindly sent us a fabulous set of pots and pans. Lorena loves them and hardly wants to use them for cooking. We finally got her to cook with them about three days after they arrived.
The other thing that happened this weekend was that Lorena’s whole family got together after meeting at Lauro’s and Conchita’s house to celebrate Lynn’s birthday. While they were all together, they got onto the internet and looked at the pictures of the ski trip. Boy were they excited. Laurin was really sad that they did not go with us, so I expect them to make their way up here next year if they possibly can. His little girl, Dayanita, was very, very sad when she saw the picture of all the kids together and of Olivia skiing. I surely hope they can join us next year.
It looks like Laurin will get promoted from his current position to a position that had previously been managed from the United States. He will work from Mexico, but will be in charge of all non-Mexican IT outsourcing operations in Latin America for HP. He did that before, but had a boss over him in the US. Now he will backfill his position with someone and take the position of his old boss while reporting to some guy higher up the chain. Congratulations Laurin!
