Ken, are you referring to your Mom as having alzhiemers? I am so sorry. Please know that I understand so well your feelings of pain. It will be important for you to see her as often as possible and talk to her often while she is able to talk. The most important thing to give her and your Dad is your love and time. Remember that Alzhiemers live in the moment so when she asks where someone is or when she is going home etc. you can play along with it. It is NOT important to correct them. And number one Ken is to love her! Please know we will be thinking of all of you these difficult days. We love you,
    Jim and JoAnn

Hey JoAnn, Thanks for the wonderful note. The advice you offer is very good and much appreciated. While Mom has some old age dementia, Dad is the one who has Alzhiemer’s. The “not important to correct” statement is the thing on which we work hard to remain focused. The love we give him and Mom to is a choice we make for both of them. They were (and are) great parents. Thanks for your love, I expect to be out there soon as my siblings have taken the brunt of the hard work (still not complete) in getting the folks situated so they can be taken care of. Greetings to all our friends their in Albany and Corvallis.

Oh Ken I am sorry that your Dad has alzhiemers and your Mom dementia. I hope you will be able to find a good place for them to be. Will your folks be able to be in the same care facility under different care? They deserve the best and so does the family. We would love to see you on one of your trips to Portland. We could always come to Portland if you have the time. I understand your first focus will be the family. Did you hear that Richard Itami passed away on Monday? There are a number of elderly folks here that we will be saying goodbyes to in the coming days. We are thankful for their days of walking faithful. On a good note…Monte professed just before Thanksgiving. Now he and Lori are a professing couple again. We are so happy!

Our thoughts are with you and your family, Ken. I am so thankful that God’s spirit reaches past everything we struggle with and can settle the soul in ways we can only see little glimmers of. Remember that God has not brought your folks this far to let them go at the end. Even if they say or do things that don’t make sense or are painful to hear or see, they are still in God’s hand and He will see them though. Lives of obedience have demonstrated where their hearts are now. You can rejoice in that.

On a side note, if you could pass my email address on to JoAnn Waldo I would like to get in touch with Monte – we used to hang around together at Saginaw.
