Doing our annual puzzle

We always like to put a jigsaw puzzle together as a family this time of year.  As the kids have gotten older, we have been able to put together more difficult puzzles.  Working against that is the fact that there are other very interesting things to do.  Last year we got a little too ambitious and tried to put together a 1000 piece puzzle.  It was not really too difficult for us, but there was so much other stuff going on, we never completed the puzzle.  Kelly and I were shopping together on Saturday.  I have to admit that I had completely forgotten about doing a puzzle.  Kelly remembered, though, and pointed at the big shelf full of puzzles at a large department store.  We rifled through them and found just the perfect one.  It is a horribly gaudy thing with a 3-D image of some once popular cartoon characters with 500 pieces.  Like I said, it is just perfect.  It is my opinion that, for the Chapman family, 500 pieces is just right.  It is not so hard or so big that it takes more than a week to put together.  You can work on it and talk to the people around you, too.  Still, it is not so easy that there are not some challenges in it.  Really, we are enjoying it so much, that we will probably do two of them this year.  Can you imagine, we will probably put 1000 pieces worth of puzzle together this year when that is exactly what we thought was our problem last year.

  1. Dad, but If you bought 250 4 piece puzzles, It would be undoubtedly easier to put together than two 500 piece puzzles. It would also probably take less time.

  2. Dad

WOW! I never thought of that! Maybe we ought to get ten 100 piece puzzles or 1000 one piece puzzles!!!

Lorena, It was soooooooo good to hear your voice this am and have a little chat about your life!! Jim and I have put a few puzzles together each winter…we started at 500, then 750 and now 1000. We like pictures that are cool and have some nice things happening like kids and dogs etc. Jim did one by himself a couple weeks ago. sometimes I just have too many little details to take care of and I can’t get into a puzzle. We like to do it in the little bedroom where is is toasty warm and we have a good light for these old eyes 🙂 Ken I told Lorena that we had a good talk with Dottie and Carol about “amen” and Dottie shared that she was planning on speaking about it soon. Well she did last night and I will try to get it down so I can send it to you ok? One thing we all agreed about was saying it after prayers AND keeping a right spirit about it all. Love all your many activities and I feel that I live vicariously through all of you!! Fun for me!! We are wishing for a warm beach to run to in the trailer but I guess it isn’t going to happen for a few months. I have a picture of the beach in New Jersey as my screen saver 🙂 Love, JoAnn

JoAnn, Thanks for the great and timely note! I am in a little bit of an uphill battle on the amen thing in this part of the world. I am trying to avoid offending anyone, but fighting the good fight as best I can! I would love to hear what was said by Dottie and Carol. We are getting into our new house right after the first of the year and we have LOTS of room for you.

P.S. I REALLY know what you mean about the light thing when it comes to puzzle. The main reason I like the 500 piece puzzles is that I can actually SEE some of the pieces.

Wow,Ken,It’s only 11.58 miles from your new house to mine!

  6. Dad

Wow. That is very cool! We have no excuse not to get you, Sterling, and Christian together now.
